Joy In Singing is deeply saddened at the passing of board member and former President, Linn Maxwell Keller. As the 1977 Debut Artist, Linn received praise from the New York Times as having "A true mezzo soprano, ample in size yet easily modulated in either registral extreme and graced with an appealing plangency of timbre." Linn went on to a international career in opera, oratorio, art song, and cabaret, with recordings on such major labels as RCA, New World and Albany Records.
"Linn Maxwell's later career was exceptional", remarked music director Paul Sperry. "Her dramatic portrayals of Hildegard of Bingen, Lilli Marlene, Lotte Lenya, Julie Andrews, and Mary Cassatt were truly original in their use of song and speech". Throughout her career, Linn nourished Joy In Singing with her generosity and service. An advocate for music in many forms, Linn also served as Honorary Board Member of the Grand Rapids Symphony (Michigan) and founded the Grand Rapids Bach Festival. Joy In Singing mourns the loss of a staunch supporter, caring friend, and accomplished artist. Our condolences to her loving husband, Fred Keller, and family.
